Working Smarter Not Harder With The Pomodoro Technique
Laura Scroggs, a writer for the Todoist, dates this life-saver back to the 1980s with an Italian college student and a tomato kitchen timer. Francesco Cirillo found himself slacking in school until he committed to set periods of time for work and rest. His technique was a success; it was so revolutionary that he wrote a book.

In a nutshell, the technique is executed as 25 minutes of work and 5 minutes of rest. It is repeated as many times as necessary, with a 15-minute break every four sessions. Such a simple set of instructions has changed the lives of many students and workers. The hardest part is sticking to it, but observing how fast 25 minutes flies when you are productive makes all the difference. During the five minutes of rest, it is advised to completely stay away from work. Personally, I ensure I have enough water to continue and use the bathroom. Honestly, use the bathroom before you start because you and I know that if you have to go during a session, the phone goes with you and Facebook becomes more important than your work.

Dietary Guidelines for Americans
I recently read the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) executive summary. While I commend their efforts to promote eating more “nutrient-dense” foods, I just can’t get behind the need for dairy, grains, and “little to no added sugar.” The DGA’s purpose is to provide “science-based advice on what to eat and drink to promote health, reduce the risk of chronic disease, and meet nutrient needs.” I think we can do better.
